Class Details
Class Type: Sit & Sew Technique – 3-hour class
Skill Level: All levels welcome
Class Includes: Many Moons and Broken Moons Pattern ($12 value)
Required: Sewing machine for class participation
Class Description
Have you been wanting to add curves to your quilts but aren’t sure where to start? This class is perfect for you. Using the Many Moons quilt pattern, you’ll learn and experiment with three different curved piecing techniques, helping you find the method that works best for you.
This pattern features large curves, making it beginner-friendly. Plus, we’ll explore how color, contrast, and fabric choices can completely transform the look of your quilt—whether you prefer a modern aesthetic with Kona Solids or a bold, playful design with large prints.
What You’ll Learn:
How to cut curves with confidence
Three different methods for piecing curves
Tips for selecting colors and fabrics to enhance your quilt’s design
Fabric Requirements for Class
For this class, there are two fabric components—the background and the circles. Please bring:
Cut two (2) 15 1/2" squares of background fabric
Two (2) 13" x WOF (Width of Fabric) strips for circles
The entire quilt yardage is not necessary for class. The goal is to cover two methods for cutting curves and three methods for stitching them so you can confidently apply these techniques to your full quilt later.
The pattern includes both a smaller and larger quilt size, but we recommend starting with the larger version for an easier learning experience. By the end of class, you’ll have the skills and confidence to tackle curved piecing in all your future quilting projects.
Supply List
Materials:
Pattern: Many Moons or Broken Moons (your choice)
Fabric: Avoid low thread count fabrics, as they fray when cut on the bias. Refer to the pattern for yardage.
Coordinating thread
Batting, backing, and binding are not needed for class but will be required to finish the quilt (refer to the pattern for yardages).
Tools & Equipment:
Glue pen or glue stick
Pins
Rotary cutter
8" quilting ruler (or larger) for rotary cutting
Small cutting mat
Seam ripper (just in case!)
Optional: Circle Savvy Ruler
